Do you have a Cartier diamond ring, earrings, LOVE bracelet, or Cartier Tank watch that you no longer love or wear? There are safe, secure ways to sell Cartier jewelry quickly, for the highest price in cash since Cartier does not buy back their jewelry.
It's important to remember that there are great opportunities to buy Cartier watches at great price points. At full retail price only few Cartier hold their value. Historically the Cartier Tank and Santos gold models do fare well in value over time. Pre-owned Cartier offer even a greater opportunity to buy watches which will retail resale value and in most cases keep appreciating as linked to gold beside rarity and uniqueness. An important difference with modern Cartier: many new lines present a caseback in steel rather than gold like the vintage models reducing the overall gold in the watch. This is why the classic and vintage Cartier are resold at higher value: they have unique elegant design, more gold in them and the vintage look which gives them a higher value in the reselling market.
Since 2017, Cartier has taken to reissuing some of its classic designs as part of the Cartier Privée collection: From the Cloche to the Tank Chinoise, well-known and, well, less-well-known watches have been reissued as modern limited editions. It's similar to what Cartier did from 1998 through 2008 with its CPCP (Collection Privée Cartier Paris), when it re-focused on its classics. Then, and now, these reissues have been hits. With that, we (Malaika and Tony, that is) thought we'd battle it out, each picking three historic Cartier models that the brand should bring back, right now.
One of the things I love most about old Cartier is all the non-wristwatches: Desk clocks, purse watches, pendant watches. Back then, Cartier slapped watches in all kinds of other stuff, too: lighters, money clips, pens, and other random things that had no business being a watch except that Cartier (or its customers) thought it might be cool. Cartier used to be some damn creative. It was the mid-century equivalent to today's omnipresent digital clocks. While today, we can get the time on our phone, laptop, microwave, car dashboard, or smart dog leash (yes, a real thing); back then, a lighter with a clock might actually have some utility, telling you how long you've been on a smoke break.
While I long for the days of Santos ref. 2961 it would be so fun to see Cartier bring back this super distinctive octagonal variation. I love that this smaller size was available with an automatic movement. All of the mechanical versions have tiny bubble backs which feel super retro but I would happily take a bubble back case if it meant I could finally have small, design-driven watches with mechanical movements.
Ever since it first began crafting fine watches and jewelry back in 1847, Cartier has been a byword for luxury. The Parisian house is also universally revered as the brand that popularized the wristwatch at the turn of the 20th century, with the introduction of the original Santos.
As the story goes, the Cartier trademark symbol, the prowling Panther, leads back to one of the most influential directors that the company has ever known. Jeanne Toussaint (1886-1976) was given the nickname of Panther and she unleashed the feline elegance of the wildcat on Cartier creations. She decorated the roaring 20s with the popular "Panther Ring"(1935) and continued to inspire with the Love and Trinity jewelry collection. Modern yet practical, Toussaint always kept in mind the final effect that she wanted her creations to bestow on lovers of the Cartier brand. Drawing inspiration from magical works of art, she created pieces of jewelry and classic watches in art-deco styles.

The Ballon Bleu Flying Tourbillon came in a 47 mm case, the Santos 100 Tourbillon in a 46.5 x 54.9 mm case, the Calibre de Cartier Tourbillon in a round 45 mm case, and the Tank Americaine in a 35.8 x 52 mm case. To make matters even worse, the back of these watches featured a round inspection window to view the beautiful, but small, caliber that was surrounded by a lot of empty space.
The 47 mm Ballon Bleu suffered tremendously and was often seen on offer for a third of the retail price. Cartier realized how bad the situation was and started to buy back the hard-to-sell watches from its dealers to reduce the number of watches that could end up in the grey market (see this Guardian article for details).
Cartiers design language in relation to its sport watches is highly distinctive and therefore a rarity in the modern world of high end watches. The santos, drive, tank, pasha, are all unique, stylish, and work very well as sport watches. Im glad they got back to their roots recently with awesome no frills designs and well made in house calibres.
Richemont bought back watches from coveted brands including Piaget, IWC and Vacheron Constantin only to have them dismantled and recycled. While this may be an expensive and somewhat embarrassing thing to do at present, the practice does help the brand retain their reputation and price points in the long run. The bigger question at this stage is, with lagging sales pushing manufacturers to take drastic steps, what is the future of the luxury watch industry?
The range of products offered by Cartier is wide. The main products sold are: jewellery, watches, perfumes, glasses and leather goods. Cartier is known all over the world and for its famous customers such as Elizabeth Taylor, the Duchess of Windsor or Jean Cocteau. Since 1983, the house has been buying back its old pieces in order to build up a collection and preserve its heritage, allowing it to organise exhibitions throughout the world. 781b155fdc
